It's super easy! Just open the Xbox app on your mobile device, tap on your profile picture, go to Customize profile, and hit the edit icon next to your Gamertag. Follow the prompts and voila, new name!

Honestly, just use the Xbox app.

Make sure you have the Xbox app installed. Open it, click your profile, and select Customize Profile. Hit the pencil icon next to your Gamertag to change it.

From personal experience, it's best to do it through the Xbox app on your phone. Tap your profile pic > Customize profile > Edit Gamertag. Done it myself a couple times without any issues!
