Just swap in new batteries if the toy isn't working. Much quicker than playing detective with a multimeter!

To check a Hot Wheels battery, start by ensuring the toy is switched off. Remove the battery compartment cover, usually secured with a screw. Use a multimeter set to the DC Voltage mode and touch the probes to the battery terminals. A healthy battery should show a voltage that matches or slightly exceeds its rated voltage. As for the charger, inspect it for any visible damage and ensure the output voltage matches what's recommended for your Hot Wheels model. Plug the charger in and use a multimeter in the same way to check its output voltage.

Often, the simplest check is the best: Make sure the charger's cord isn't frayed and that the plug fits snugly in the outlet. For the battery, signs like corrosion or leakage are dead giveaways it's time for a replacement.
