First off, check the card's texture and color. Authentic Pokemon cards have a distinct, consistent color and a smooth finish, except for certain special cards which might have unique textures. Also, real cards have a clear, crisp printing of text and images. A magnifying glass can help you spot any blurring or smudging, which is a red flag. Don't forget to look at the back of the card too; fake cards often have a different shade of blue or a blurry Pokémon logo.

The easiest way is the light test: real Pokemon cards have a thin layer of black inside, so when you hold them up to a light, they shouldn't be completely see-through. If you can see light shining straight through, chances are you've got a fake.

Weight can sometimes give it away. Genuine Pokemon cards have a certain heft to them due to the quality of paper used. If it feels too light or flimsy, you might want to question its authenticity.

If you're a Pokemon TCG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of Pokemon cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you’re wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!

The brands referenced on this page are not sponsors of the rewards or otherwise affiliated with this company.
