If you're looking for a workaround, try getting a Bluetooth transmitter for the PS4. Plug it into the USB port, put your AirPods in pairing mode, and connect them. Works like a charm for me!

Unfortunately, the PS4 doesn't directly support Bluetooth audio devices like AirPods. But you can use a Bluetooth adapter! Plug the adapter into the PS4 controller or the console's USB port, pair your AirPods with the adapter, and voila, you're good to go!
