Just use your TV's audio output to connect to the speakers if your PS3 is hooked up to the TV. It works like a charm!

If your speakers have an optical input, use an optical audio cable from the PS3's Optical Digital Out port for even better sound quality. Go to Settings > Sound Settings on your PS3, and select 'Digital Out (Optical)'.
