Super simple! Just plug one end of the Ethernet cable into your Xbox 360 and the other end into your router or modem. Go to System Settings on the Xbox 360 dashboard, select Network Settings, and then Test Xbox Live Connection. If all goes well, you're online and ready to game!

I’ve done this a hundred times! Connect the Ethernet cable to both your Xbox 360 and your router. Then navigate to System Settings > Network Settings > Wired Network. You should be good to go!
