Each monster has its Achilles' heel! I discovered that for the crawlers, you can use traps effectively. Set them up in narrow corridors and lure the crawlers in. Boom, problem solved. Also, don't underestimate the power of scavenged weapons for the bigger foes. Took down a brute with a few well-placed shots from an improvised cannon.
