You've got to deactivate your Facebook first before you can deactivate Messenger. Go to your Facebook settings, deactivate your account, and then poof, you can get rid of Messenger too!

To deactivate Facebook Messenger, first deactivate your Facebook account. Open the Facebook app, go to Settings, tap Personal and Account Information, tap Account Ownership and Control, then tap Deactivation and Deletion, and choose Deactivate Account. After deactivating Facebook, open Messenger, tap your profile picture in the top-left, scroll down to Legal & Policies, and finally tap Deactivate Messenger.

Is it even possible? Seems like Facebook wants us to stay connected 24/7!

I deactivated mine last week! Just remember to deactivate your Facebook first, then Messenger. Easy peasy!
