I've tried this too. You have to delete each conversation individually. Not ideal, but that's the way it is for now!
Sorry, whether you have 10 or 1000 messages, there's no way to delete them all at once. Get comfy, it's gonna take a while.
Unfortunately, Instagram doesn't have a magic 'delete all' button for messages. You'll have to delete each conversation one by one. Just go to your DMs, swipe left on the convo, and hit 'Delete.' It's a workout for your thumb!
