From my experience, you can delete messages from your side by using the 'Remove for You' option, but keep in mind that it's still visible to the other person unless you use 'Remove for Everyone' within 10 minutes of sending it.
Just go to Messenger, open the conversation, tap and hold the message, then tap 'Remove'. It's that simple!
