To disconnect a PS3 controller, just hold down the PS button for about 10 seconds until it turns off. Easy peasy!

You can also go to 'Accessory Settings' in the PS3 menu, select 'Manage Bluetooth Devices,' and then choose to disconnect the controller from there.
