Actually, you can also drop an item by pressing the shield button and down on the directional pad (D-pad) at the same time. Quick and stealthy!
Hold the throw button (Z on the Nunchuk or L/R on the GameCube Controller) and release it to drop the item. Simple as that!
Just press your grab button. No need to complicate it!
Back in my Brawl days, I鈥檇 drop items all the time using Z on the GameCube controller. Works like a charm!
