Fighting the Eye of Cthulhu is all about preparation! First up, get yourself some decent armor and weapons. Iron or Silver armor should do the trick, and bows or guns are great for keeping your distance. Secondly, build an arena with platforms to easily dodge its attacks. Don't forget to bring plenty of healing potions and maybe a few buff potions like Ironskin. When it transforms, keep your cool and focus on dodging its charges. Good luck!

Honestly, if you've got a strong melee weapon and some good movement accessories, just tank it. I've done it. Not the easiest way, but definitely fun.
