If your Xbox 360 controller buttons are getting sticky or unresponsive, try cleaning them first. Use a clean cloth and some rubbing alcohol. If that doesn't work, consider opening up the controller and cleaning the contacts inside. Just be careful with all those tiny screws!

You might just need a new controller. Sometimes, they're just too old and worn out to fix.

Sometimes it's just dust or grime. Blast it with some compressed air and see if that helps.

I had this problem. Replacing the rubber membrane inside the controller worked wonders. You can find inexpensive replacement kits online.
