Calibrate the controller in the settings menu of your Xbox. Sometimes all it needs is a little recalibration!

If all else fails, consider replacing the thumbstick module. You can find tutorials online, and it's usually cheaper than buying a new controller.

I just bought some contact cleaner, sprayed it around the stick, and twisted it a bit. Problem solved!
