Getting a steel axe in Stardew Valley is all about upgrading! First, make sure you've gathered 5 iron bars by smelting iron ore in your furnace. Then, with those bars in hand and 5,000G (gold), head over to the Blacksmith. Hand over your materials and cash to Clint, the town blacksmith, and he'll upgrade your current axe to steel. Remember, you won't have your axe for a couple of days while it's being upgraded, so plan accordingly!

Just mine a bunch of iron, smelt it into bars, take 5 of these iron bars and 5k gold, and give 'em to Clint. Boom, steel axe!

You don't need a steel axe, just befriend the trees with positive vibes. JK, you really need it for the stump removal and to access the Secret Woods. Go get those iron bars and gold ready!
