Just plug and play if you're on Windows! Seriously, most of the time it just works out of the box. If it doesn't, update your drivers.

First, make sure you have the correct drivers installed. If you're on Windows, the OS should automatically download them, but you can also get them from the Microsoft website. Then, plug in your controller using a USB cable for a wired connection, or use the Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for a wireless setup.
Honestly, just get an Xbox One controller... it's more reliable and works better with current systems.
