The fastest way to unlock all characters is by playing Vs. mode matches. Just set it to 1-stock, and keep rematching until you hit the required number for each character. Easy peasy!

Unlocking all characters in SSB Melee takes a bit of patience and skill. For example, play Classic or Adventure mode and beat it with different characters to unlock guys like Jigglypuff and Marth. Also, for characters like Mewtwo, you need a whopping 20 hours of total play time or 700 Vs. mode matches!

I found that just enjoying the game and naturally progressing through all modes eventually unlocked everyone for me. Takes time, but worth it!

Quick hot take: If you really want to unlock everyone fast, just use an Action Replay cheat disc. Purists may hate it, but it works!
