Patience is key! And also, bobby pins. Lots of bobby pins. Don't force it; gently rotate the lockpick and adjust as the sweet spot shifts. Broke a few (dozen) picks myself learning the ropes.
Honestly, lockpicking is overrated when you can just find the key or password most of the time. Keep an eye out for notes and terminals instead.
