Another way to get those shiny Chaos Emeralds in Sonic Mania's debug mode is to activate debug after entering a special stage. Use debug to transform into any object, then float to the Emerald's location and grab it!

You can use the debug mode's item placement to spawn the large rings that lead to the Chaos Emerald stages. Just enter debug mode, find the large ring item, and place it anywhere you like. Then just jump into it to start the Chaos Emerald challenge!
