To get keys in Super Mario Maker, place a key in a level by selecting the key from the item menu and placing it where you want. You can also attach a key to enemies or blocks, so defeating the enemy or breaking the block will drop the key!
When creating your level, select the key icon and drop it in. You can also give enemies keys for a bit of a challenge!
Just plop the key from the item menu into your level. Easy peasy!
