Early missions sometimes reward the Old Earth Pistol. Just keep doing those main or side missions and you'll likely stumble upon one!

You can try scavenging in abandoned space stations and ruins on various planets. Keep an eye out for loot containers – found my Old Earth Pistol in one of those.
