How to Get Old Instagram Messages Back
If you accidentally deleted messages, there's no magical 'undo' button, but you can request your data from Instagram. Go to Settings > Security > Download Data, and Instagram will email you a copy of everything, including messages!

If you archived the conversation, just search for the person in your Direct Messages and the chat will pop back up! Easy peasy.
FYI, once deleted from both sides, messages are gone forever. Be careful next time!
As someone who's had to do this, requesting your data from Instagram is the best bet. It took about 48 hours to get the email, but totally worked!
