In 'Super Smash Bros. Ultimate', you can unlock Sonic by playing World of Light, classic mode, or having him appear in Challenger's Approach after playing a number of vs. matches. Just keep playing, and he'll eventually show up!
For 'Super Smash Bros. 4' on Wii U/3DS, you can play 10 matches in Smash mode, then face Sonic and beat him. Gotta go fast, right?
If you wanna unlock Sonic the easy way, just play vs. matches. He'll pop up as a challenger eventually. Definitely worth the wait!
