How to get Steam to recognize installed games
BustingSpire路7 months agoOh, the age-old struggle of making Steam acknowledge our game hoard without a re-download marathon! Here's a lifesaver trick: Shut down Steam > Head to your Steam installation folder (usually 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam') > Locate the 'steamapps' folder > Move it somewhere safe. Now, uninstall and reinstall Steam, move the 'steamapps' folder back into the Steam directory, and launch Steam. Voila! It should now recognize your installed games. Steam's kinda like that friend who needs a reminder of who's who at the party.

Honestly, I just reinstall the game where it already is. Steam figures it out and skips downloading most files.
Half of these steps ain't necessary. Just restart your PC and Steam a couple of times. It's worked for me more often than not.
Just go to Steam > Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folders > Add Library Folder. Choose the folder where your games are installed. Steam should then list your games as installed. Easy peasy!
