Trust me, the key is on a ledge above the starting point. Go back after getting it!
To get the chest in Ice Cavern, you need to find the key first. The key is located on the ledge above the starting area. Glide from the top of the platform near the end of the level to reach it.
Remember to use your glide and patience to get that key! Then return to the chest you saw earlier.
