How to get the Thestral in Hogwarts Legacy
Just a heads up, you can't get a Thestral right from the start. Gotta play through some of the story first. Once you do 'The High Keep' quest, you're all set to find and catch one of those elusive creatures. They hang around the Forbidden Forest and near Hogsmeade. Happy hunting!

To get the Thestral in Hogwarts Legacy, you first need to progress through the main story until you unlock the “The High Keep” quest. During this quest, you'll receive the ability to see Thestrals. After that, head to the Forbidden Forest or around the outskirts of Hogsmeade. Thestrals are rare but they spawn in those areas. Remember, you need to complete the 'The High Keep' quest first to see them, cuz they're invisible to those who haven't witnessed death (or in this case, just haven't done the quest).
