You can’t get Yoshi in the original Super Mario Maker on Wii U or 3DS, only in Super Mario Maker 2 on Switch.

In Super Mario Maker 2, you can add Yoshi to your levels by placing a Yoshi Egg from the items menu. Just drag it onto the stage like any other item!
