Unfortunately, Blizzard hasn't made it possible to gift Overwatch coins yet. You could always send them some credits for in-game skins through a gift card instead!

Just get them a gift card for their platform, much easier and they can choose what they want.

I've gifted Overwatch coins by buying a PlayStation or Xbox gift card and then my friend uses it to buy the coins directly.

You can't directly gift Overwatch coins, but you can buy a Battle.net gift card and let your friend use it to get coins themselves!
