To give Kelvin items in Sons of the Forest, open your inventory, highlight the item, then hit the 'give' option when facing him. Easy-peasy!

Heads up! You can't really 'give' items to Kelvin like you expect. But you can drop items in front of him, and he’ll pick them up if they're useful.
