The best way to grind ability chunks is by scrubbing your gear repeatedly! Earn cash in matches, scrub off the unwanted abilities at Murch, and watch those ability chunks add up.

Playing Salmon Run is another excellent way to earn ability chunks. You get a lot of gear with random abilities as prizes, so chuck those into Murch's shredder for a bunch of chunks!

Hot take: Just play Turf War and be patient. You'll naturally collect chunks over time without focusing solely on grinding.

I've found that leveling up gear with preferred abilities, then switching up your match wins for some Super Sea Snails during Splatfests, can also help in getting chunks faster.
