On desktop, click the Messenger icon at the top right, then click 'See All in Messenger' to open the full chat list. On mobile, just tap the Messenger app and search for your friend!
Honestly, just use Messenger. It's right there on the home screen or a click away on the desktop site. Easy peasy.
Speaking from experience, I usually just tap the Messenger icon from the home bar on my phone. Then, I search the person's name and voil脿!
