You gotta go to the Online menu, select Krossplay, and then add your friend using their game tag. Simple as that!

Invite them? Just use the Krossplay option in the online menu. Oh, and make sure both of you turned on Krossplay in settings.

First, make sure you and your friend have Krossplay enabled in the settings. Then head to the Online section, choose Krossplay, and invite them by their username.

From personal experience, I recommend double-checking both your accounts have Krossplay allowed and then inviting through the Online menu. Works every time!
