From my experience, simply go to their profile and click 'Join Game' if they're playing something. Sometimes you might need to send a friend request first.
Honestly, if their game is open to everyone, just click 'Join Game' from their profile. No rocket science involved!
Just go to the person's profile who's in the game and click 'Join Game' if it's not private. Easy peasy!
