I always use a Stasis Rifle to freeze those bad boys in place and then go in with my knife. Stalker popsicle anyone?
You don't need to kill them. Lure them away with metal salvage; they'll leave you alone and you save a knife. Win-win.
As someone who’s dealt with these guys a lot: just get a Repulsion Cannon and blast them away. Quick and no fuss!
