I lost Nick Valentine for a week once, thought he glitched out. Turns out, I left him in a building... Use the bell and check all your settlements. If that fails, check where you last assigned them or completed a quest with them. It's a pain, but it beats losing your favorite wasteland buddy!
Hot take: If you can't find them, you probably didn't need them anyway. Real wasteland warriors go solo.
