Honestly, just look at the holo (if it has one). Real Pokemon holos have a unique shine that's hard to replicate. Fakes usually get this wrong, either by overdoing it or missing the mark entirely.

I bought what I thought was a rare card online, and it turned out to be a fake. The biggest tell was the weight; it felt lighter than my other cards. Always compare the weight if you can.

First off, always check the card texture. Real Pokemon cards have a distinct smooth feel and a certain thickness to them. Fakes often feel too glossy or too flimsy. Also, the colors on a genuine card are vibrant but not overly bright. If the colors on your card look washed out or too vivid, be suspicious. Next, peep the card border – it should be even and clean. Any uneven borders or smudging is a dead giveaway of a fake. Lastly, real Pokemon cards have a clear, crisp printing of text and images. If the text or images are blurry or smeared, that's a big red flag.

If you're a Pokemon TCG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of Pokemon cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you’re wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
