How to Log Out From Facebook Messenger
On Android, just go to Settings > Apps > Messenger > Storage > Clear Data. On iOS, you'll need to log out from Facebook directly.

Log out from the Facebook app itself! Open the Facebook app, go to settings, and log out there. It logs you out of Messenger too!
I had to uninstall the Messenger app and reinstall it when I wanted to log out. Worked like a charm!
Why would you log out? Just mute the notifications and you're all set!
