To loot debris in Starfield, just fly close to the debris field and look for interactable items floating around your ship. Once you spot something shiny, aim your targeting reticle at it and press the appropriate button to collect the loot. Happy scavenging in the cosmos!
In my experience, the most reliable way is to scan your surroundings for interactable items and fly towards them. Once you lock onto the debris, it should be lootable.
