To make a furnace in Stardew Valley, you'll need 20 Copper Ore and 25 Stone. Once you've gathered these materials, open your crafting menu and select the Furnace. Voila, you're ready to start smelting!

Just mine enough to get 20 Copper Ore and grab 25 Stone. Crafting menu, find the Furnace icon, and click. Easy peasy.

FYI, you can't make a furnace without first getting the crafting recipe from Clint, the town blacksmith. He stops by your place with it after you collect your first Copper Ore.
