You have to use a bot. Admins can set it up to auto-assign a role when new folks join the server.
Why make it complicated? Just use a bot like Dyno to set up auto-roles.
Easiest way? Use a bot like Mee6 or Dyno to auto-assign roles when people join. They do all the heavy lifting for you.
