To make a better pickaxe in Terraria, you gotta start by collecting the right materials. Iron or lead ore is a good step up from your basic copper or tin pickaxe. Smelt these ores in a furnace to make bars, then head over to an anvil to craft your new pickaxe. As you progress, keep an eye out for stronger materials like silver, gold, or even demonite ore, depending on what bosses you've defeated. Remember, the better the material, the better the pickaxe and the faster you can mine!

Just defeat bosses and mine better ores, duh. It's Terraria 101.

I remember the first time I upgraded my pickaxe. It was a game-changer! Make sure to mine enough ore for bars and always keep your eyes peeled for rare ores after boss fights. Crafting a better pickaxe makes exploring so much easier and faster. Plus, you can start accessing areas you couldn't before with a stronger pickaxe!
