Hey, tried it myself! You can't hide the cover photo itself, but you can make the cover photo's post private. Click the cover photo > select the three dots > 'Edit Audience' > choose 'Only Me'.
Unfortunately, the cover photo is always public. You can limit its impact by choosing a generic image that doesn't reveal much.
Hot take: It's 2023, maybe just embrace it? Everyone has access to cover photos!
