Go with the Ranger class and choose the monster slayer archetype. It fits his goblin-hunting expertise. Don’t forget to pick goblins as your favored enemy!

Start with a Fighter class (Champion or Battlemaster) for those goblin-slaying skills. Focus on heavy armor, a shield, and a good longsword. You may want to take the Monster Hunter background from Xanathar's Guide to Everything for the extra lore.

Hot take: Multiclass Fighter/Rogue. The sneak attack damage lets you take down those pesky goblins fast. Take the Outlander background for survival skills.

In my campaign, I built him as a Battlemaster Fighter with a splash of Ranger. Gave him the Criminal background to reflect his gritty past. Worked like a charm!
