Honestly, just long-press on your avatar until the menu pops up and choose the 'Sit' option. Super simple!
I'm pretty sure you can sit by pressing and holding your character for a few seconds and then picking 'Sit' from the menu.
Just figured this out last week: hold your character, then select 'Sit' from the menu. Works like a charm!
You wanna sit? Tap your character, hold it, and pick 'Sit'. Boom, you're sitting.
