Try incorporating invisible blocks to troll players just when they think they鈥檝e nailed a tricky section. Trust me, it鈥檚 evil but effective.
Don't forget to use checkpoints sparingly or not at all. This way, players must master the entire level in one go.
Use lots of narrow platforms and time-sensitive puzzles. Nothing says 'hard' like making players sweat over every jump.
From personal experience, add unpredictable elements like rising lava or auto-scrolling to keep players on their toes. Worked wonders in my last creation!
