Been playing GD for years and here's the deal: your icon reflects your achievements. The harder you grind, the cooler the icon you can put together. No shortcuts, just pure skill (and a bit of luck in those treasure rooms). Customize away!
Just play the game! Seriously, the more you play, the more stuff you unlock which lets you customize your icon. You don't really 'make' an icon from scratch, you unlock parts and colors to customize.
