You can also use the binocular view (default: 'B') to get an estimate. Aim at the target and check the distance displayed!

Just eyeball it! After a few hundred matches, you'll start getting a feel for the distances.

First-hand tip: I use ground markers. Switch to the gunner’s sight, then move the marker to the target to get the range.
