Once you've got the Resident Services building up and running, chat with Tom Nook and choose the 'Let's talk infrastructure' option. You can't just move tents willy-nilly from the get-go. First, upgrade from a tent to a house, and make sure Resident Services is no longer a tent itself but a proper building. Then, talking to Tom Nook will give you the option to move stuff around, including your home. Remember, it'll cost you, so be prepared to spend some Bells!
