From my experience, both on desktop and mobile, visiting the 'Message Requests' section in Messenger will reveal all hidden messages. Works like a charm!
You just have to go to your message requests folder! On desktop, click the Messenger icon, then 'See All in Messenger', and look for 'Message Requests'. On mobile, go to Messenger, click on your profile picture, and head to 'Message Requests'. Easy-peasy!
